How to Hire a Drone Service Provider
A simple seven-step process for scoping, shortlisting and booking a professional drone operator in any sector.
1. Write a one-paragraph brief
Location, site size, what you need delivered, the format (PDF, GeoTIFF, video, CAD), deadline and any site access or safety rules. A clear brief gets accurate quotes.
2. Pick the right sector directory
Use the sector chooser on DroneNetworkHub.com to land on the right directory, then filter by state and service.
3. Shortlist three providers
Look for relevant sample work, the specific service you need listed on their profile, and coverage of your area. Verified and claimed listings have supplied extra information.
4. Check credentials
Every commercial pilot in the US needs an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate. Ask for proof of liability insurance and any sector licences (e.g. Part 137 for spraying, PLS involvement for boundary surveys).
5. Compare like for like
Make sure every quote covers the same area, deliverables, accuracy and turnaround. Ask what happens if weather delays the flight.
6. Confirm airspace and permissions
Near airports the operator may need LAANC or an FAA waiver. They should handle this — ask how and how long it takes.
7. Agree the deliverables in writing
List the files, formats, resolution, accuracy, delivery date and data ownership in the purchase order or contract.
